Disability

WHY elect supplemental Disability?

You rely on your paycheck.  You suffer an off-job injury or illness.  State Disability (TDI) only covers 40% of your GROSS wages.  By electing "supplemental disability" coverage, you can own a policy that will replace 30% of your gross wages to bring your "net pay" up to 70% (close to your take home wage).  Without it, you'll only receive 40% of your gross paycheck

HOW does it work?

Disability coverage has three components:  1) you elect HOW MUCH in tax-free weekly benefit you wish to receive (not to exceed 30%), 2) you select HOW LONG you wish to receive the benefit:  three or six months and 3) WHEN you want the benefit to start (one or two week wait for sickness, always first day for accidents).  Will cover you for Covid if diagnosed by a doctor and undergoing treatment and unable to work


WHO should be interested in Disability?

Benefit will be paid should you be unable to perform the duties of your job, under the care of a physician and not working in any job, Assurity will pay the tax-free benefit.  It pays for maternity (six or 8 weeks) as well as mental health & substance abuse and more...

Accident

WHY elect Accident coverage?

Accidents are the third cause of death in the US, and the costs are staggering.  Medical pays the docs and hospitals, but there are always out-of-pocket expenses, let alone time off work.  If you and/or your family is active, purchasing an accident plan is a great financial safety net for when the unexpected happens, you won't have to dip into savings or incur credit card debt, or worse, claim bankruptcy.

HOW does it work?

An accident plan is great because it simply pays you CASH benefits based on the severity of the injury and treatment.  The benefit is 24/7 with coverage options for employee, employee + spouse, single family and family.  This plan also pays an annual $50 health screening benefit for up to four insured and covers Covid tests and more...see details


WHAT is covered?

Critical Illness

WHY elect Critical Illness coverage?

Heart Disease is the #1 cause of death in the US and cancer the second (with 40% of us being diagnosed with the disease) and Stroke the leading cause of disability, having a financial "safety net" for out-of-pocket expenses is critical.  Most employees need to take time off, potentially air fare expenses for family care and more.  The plan offered has ZERO health questions, meaning regardless of your health, you WILL qualify for the benefit amount!

HOW does it work?

Critical Illness is really your "living life insurance policy" as you simple choose a LUMP SUM benefit up to $30k and should you suffer a covered critical illness, you receive the benefit (tax-free) to spend as you see fit.  Children are included at no cost and spouse coverage is 50% of the benefit you choose.  Includes $50 annual health screening benefit.  Lock the rate in at the age you are now and the premium will NEVER increase!


WHAT is covered?

Paid at 100%:  Heart Attack, Stroke, Cancer, Kidney Failure, Major Organ Transplant, Advanced Alzheimer's & Parkinson's, Coma, Paralysis, Loss of Sight, Speech and Hearing, Benign Brain Tumor, Occupational HIV.  at 25%:  Coronary Bypass, Non-invasive Cancer and Skin Cancer benefit is $250.  Benefit also pays $50 immunization benefit for Covid

Hospital

WHY elect Hospital coverage?

   We know medical insurance pays the doctors and hospitals but Alaska has the highest healthcare costs in the world.  No matter how good your insurance is, a trip to the hospital, ICU or surgical costs are always subject to the deductible.  Hospital plans are important to have in place BEFORE you get pregnant, as it can pay for birth and especially neo-natal care, which can be very costly. 

HOW does it work?

Hospital Plans come in a variety of "flavors" but typically, the broker will create a plan design that will cover costs as it relates to your out-of-pocket expenses with your medical.  Typically there is a lump sum benefit for hospitalization ($1000 for example), then an amount per day for ICU and stay and can include outpatient surgical care, telemedicine, and more.   

WHAT is covered?

 The great benefit in having Hospital coverage is that the CASH comes to you to spend as you see fit.  Whether you have a short (or long) hospital stay, the last thing you need are big bills to have to pay when you were off work and recovering.  A hospital plan can cover your whole family, will include maternity and can be used for Covid, but know that it will cover ANY accident or sickness (even on-the-job)

Term Life

WHY elect Term Life Insurance?

We all know that the risk of death is 100%, and life insurance is important as we cannot control the "timing" of our passing.  Life insurance is for four things;  1) immediate expenses (funeral/burial), 2) loss of wages, 3) future expenses (such as college tuition) and 4) debt as well as leaving a legacy and those who you love more financially secure

HOW does it work?

Life insurance typically has two "flavors":  TERM and PERMANENT.  We are offering 20year Term coverage that employees can purchase through the convenience of payroll deduction and you can continue the policy through individual when you leave the company.  Know that if you have life insurance already in place, you can ALWAYS purchase more.


WHAT is covered?

The important part of about the term coverage being offered during this open enrollment, is the fact that the coverage is provided to you REGARDLESS of your health.  Meaning, if you've been turned down for life insurance in past, NOW IS TIME TO APPLY.  Spouse and children coverage available with zero health questions up to certain limits

Your employer specifically chose the benefit offering and the ability to offer the products at 100% "guarantee issue" (i.e. "no health questions") means that ALL employees must acknowledge that you reviewed the benefits and made a clear "yes" or "no".  


Your employer has made a decision to switch voluntary benefit carriers for their employees with premium paid via payroll deduction for the NEW carries.  Most likely, you can continue your existing coverage with your current carrier and pay the premiums to them directly (credit card and/or bank draft)
